Our Approach

The dream which is not understood is like a letter which is not opened.

Talmud

The transformative process begins when we begin to unravel the mystery of our nightly poetry, stories, and myths. Dream speaks a seemingly different language that appears indecipherable and seemingly vague despite its amazing details. The work of Sacred Dreams is to help us each loosen the reins of waking rationale and to explore the depths of Dream through the knowing of the Soul. It is this direct connection to Soul that allows the hidden majesty of Dream to appear. We begin to remember and to appreciate the effortlessly beautiful language of Soul.

Through various modalities, we explore Dream seeking clarity as to its meaning upon waking life. Our work together may include:

Free Association as understood in the Freudian school of psychological thought where each dream image is examined in relation to the dreamer’s hopes and desires. We look at the random thoughts, feelings, and images that emerge as Dream is explored and begin to notice how these seemingly chance thoughts come to be associated with one’s deeper wishes.

The Amplification Method as practiced in the Jungian school of thought where the mysterious symbols of the night are placed within the context of waking life and then amplified to tease out the details and complex emotions that rest apparently hidden within the unconscious. We look at how these nightly myths mirror aspects of one’s subjective experience and reflect the larger, collective aspects of the objective, external world.

Gestalt Psychology as synthesized by Frederick Perls whereby the dreamer comes to identify with each element of Dream and to understand how these elements are mere representations of one’s own self. In Gestalt dream work, one embarks on the "royal road to integration" allowing one to reclaim aspects of self and Soul that have gone astray.

Archetypal, alchemical, and mythic dreamwork as written of so frequently in the works of Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell. Here, we move beyond the realm of the personal and enter the domain of the gods. We begin to appreciate the deep-seated influence of the universal experience of all life and see how Dream simply mirrors these universal forces that have existed since time immemorial. Dream moves from the personal to a place of larger, collective unfolding.

Shamanic and indigenous methods as practiced by cultures from around the world. While steering away from cultural appropriation, we learn to honor the majesty and wonder of Dream as experienced in these various traditions. This might possibly include dream re-entry, meditative dialogue with Dream, and communion with one’s own ancestors. No matter the means, we begin to see Dream less as a psychological import of the unconscious and more of a spiritual gift from the realm of soul.

Dream art, dream dialogue, and dream theatre so that we can release the bonds of waking rationale and reconnect with the creative fluidity of Dream. By doing so, we tap into the creative energy that has dreamed Creation into being and realize that we are each a part of the Universal, Eternal Dreaming. We begin to feel the imaginative weaving of waking life’s union with the Sacred Source.

No matter the modality undertaken, the intent remains the same. The nightly tales are a sacred experience of life. And these stories seek honoring for the inherent purity that moves through the Cosmos.
